Data-Driven AI Launches CloudMonitor FinOps Workload for Microsoft Fabric

Built with the Microsoft Fabric Extensibility Toolkit and backed by a Microsoft Marketplace SaaS offer, CloudMonitor provides FOCUS-aligned Azure and Fabric cost intelligence directly inside the Fabric workspace.

BARCELONA, Spain - September 28, 2026 - Data-Driven AI, a Microsoft partner, today announced at the European Microsoft Fabric + SQL Community Conference the availability of CloudMonitor, an enterprise FinOps and cloud cost-management platform, as a custom workload in Microsoft Fabric, discoverable through the Microsoft Fabric Workload Hub and backed by a Microsoft Marketplace SaaS offer.

As organizations accelerate their adoption of data analytics and artificial intelligence, cloud spend often scales faster than financial visibility. Engineering and data science teams focus on shipping models and data pipelines, while finance teams face aggregated monthly bills with little context into what drove sudden budget variances. CloudMonitor addresses this gap by placing FinOps intelligence directly where data professionals work, allowing organizations to trace Microsoft Azure and Fabric consumption from high-level variances down to the individual resource, workspace, and owner.

Built using the Microsoft Fabric Extensibility Toolkit (FET), CloudMonitor integrates as a custom item within Microsoft Fabric. Users can create and open CloudMonitor items directly in their existing Fabric workspaces alongside Lakehouses, Notebooks, and Data Pipelines, eliminating the friction of navigating between separate third-party monitoring portals. The workload is backed by a transactable Microsoft Marketplace SaaS offer, allowing customers to use their existing Azure consumption commitments to purchase and activate the solution.

CloudMonitor structures cost data according to the FinOps Open Cost and Usage Specification (FOCUS) standard. This provides clear, consistent telemetry across Azure and Microsoft Fabric environments. Organizations using CloudMonitor can:

  • Trace spend from variance to owner to decision: Pinpoint the root cause of month-over-month cost changes across subscriptions, resource groups, individual resources, and custom Cost Groups.
  • Track AI spend and tokenomics: Analyze Azure OpenAI, Copilot, and foundational model costs across prompt and completion tokens, forecasting consumption and evaluating unit economics across applications and teams.
  • Automate cost allocation for showback and chargeback: Organize costs by business unit, product, project, team, and cost center. Virtual tags normalize inconsistent Azure tags into unified reporting dimensions, while allocation rules route shared infrastructure costs.
  • Track budgets and triage spend anomalies: Compare actual run rates against operational budgets and forecasts. Automated anomaly alerts notify resource owners immediately when unexpected usage occurs, recording triage decisions directly in the workflow.
  • Prioritize actionable savings opportunities: Evaluate rightsizing, idle resources, unattached storage, Azure Hybrid Benefit, Reservations, and Savings Plans, with recommendations ranked by tangible financial return.

Security and data sovereignty are central to CloudMonitor’s architecture. Unlike traditional software-as-a-service FinOps tools that require transmitting billing details and infrastructure topology to an external vendor cloud, CloudMonitor operates inside the customer’s Microsoft environment. Data processing executes within the customer’s Fabric tenant and Azure subscription, leveraging OneLake and Direct Lake semantic models for fast, governed analytics. CloudMonitor remains read-only, evaluating metrics and surfacing recommendations while ensuring that financial data never leaves the customer’s security boundary.

“Enterprises scaling their investments in Microsoft Fabric and Microsoft Azure need to quantify the return on their cloud and AI spend,” said Rodney Joyce, Founder and CEO of Data-Driven AI. “We developed CloudMonitor to provide clear financial accountability directly within the analytics workflow. By linking model tokenomics and infrastructure costs to business units and products, CloudMonitor enables finance and engineering leaders to measure tangible ROI on cloud and AI initiatives while maintaining strict data sovereignty.”

CloudMonitor is available now in the Microsoft Fabric Workload Hub. Customers can deploy the workload directly to their Fabric workspaces, subscribe via the Microsoft Marketplace SaaS offer, or explore the interactive public demonstration.
